Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan have been advised to remain indoors due to alarming reports of mob violence.

Pakistani officials have expressed their concern over reports of mob violence against Pakistani students in Bishkek. The Pakistani Embassy has not confirmed any deaths related to the incident.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Bishkek has reported that foreign students residing in the Kyrgyz capital, including those from Pakistan, were targeted by locals following a clash with Egyptian nationals a few days ago. Despite rumors on social media, the embassy clarified that there have been no confirmed cases of death or assault on Pakistani students.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar expressed deep concern over the incidents of violence against Pakistani students in Bishkek. He assured that efforts are being made to ensure the safety of Pakistani students by coordinating with Kyrgyz authorities. Ambassador Hasan Zaigham advised all Pakistanis in the capital to stay indoors until the situation normalizes.

He mentioned that his office is collaborating with local authorities to ensure the safety of students and published emergency helpline numbers.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif released a statement stating that his office was coordinating with the Pakistani Embassy and continuously monitoring the situation.

Expressing deep concern about the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the PM stated on X, “I have instructed Pakistan’s Ambassador to provide all necessary assistance and support.”

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch conveyed a message from Ambassador Zaigham in a post on X. She wrote, “The Embassy of Pakistan is in touch with the Kyrgyz authorities to facilitate Pakistani students,” emphasizing that Zaigham and his team prioritize the safety of the students.

In a separate post, Mumtaz shared the Pakistani Embassy’s X account, which contains emergency helpline numbers.

She stated that Ambassador Zaigham and his team can be reached at these emergency numbers (both numbers on WhatsApp). They have addressed numerous inquiries from students and their families. Several social media posts have also documented incidents of violence at hostels accommodating foreign students in Bishkek, accompanied by videos and images. Many individuals are urging the authorities to assist the students in need.
